Spirit

There is already plenty of advice for the spiritual seeker. Find a teacher, find a path, find a tradition. Its all there waiting  and its all important. I do not intend to replicate any of these rich resources of wisdom and truth.

When people talk about becoming enlightened – I smile. It’s a commendable ambition. I hope they become enlightened. I wish them all good fortune. But I very much doubt that I will become enlightened. It is of no use for anyone to push me along this path by suggesting that I will become enlightened by doing or not doing something. If that were to be my ambition, then it would probably be just another material ambition. Or a desire made popular by the ‘new age’ enlightenment movement.

What I write here under the category ‘Spirit’ is the expression of my experiences on a journey of devotion, a journey to remember and a journey of return.

As a long since forgotten Sufi once wrote:

” I have become so lost

from myself in remembering You

That I ask for news of myself

from whomever I meet on my way.”
